Statue of Zinedine Zidane Removed For Being Un-Islamic

A five-metre bronze statue of French footballer Zinedine Zidane's infamous headbutt has been taken down from the Corniche in Doha, Qatar.

Statue of Zinedine Zidane Removed For Being Un-Islamic
The statue of Zidane, by Adel Abdessemed, went on display on 3 October

The sculpture was removed just weeks after being installed, having prompted strong reactions on social media.
It generated criticism from religious conservatives who believe it encourages idolatry; others thought it promoted violence or was in bad taste.
It portrays Zidane headbutting Italy's Marco Materazzi in the 2006 World Cup.
Created by Algerian-born French artist Adel Abdessemed in 2012, it had previously been on show at the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
It was bought by the Qatari Museum Authority.
Local reports say the statue - known as Coup de Tete or headbutt - is going to be housed along with other works by Abdessemed in the Arab Museum of Modern Art.

New idols
The Arabic hashtag "Zidane's statue in Qatar" triggered a "massive" reaction from dismayed conservatives on Twitter, with one user sarcastically posting: "Congratulations for having new idols."
"It is sad that our youth see in this art and modernity. Our children do not differentiate between the right and the wrong, or the haram (prohibited) and the halal (permissible)," said another tweeter.
However another poster criticised the removal: "Seriously they moved the headbutt statue from the corniche? that's stupid."
"It definitely was relevant to football, a sport loved in this country! as for the culture, no relevance whatsoever," other comments said.
The statue's craftsmanship and symbolism were earlier praised as "timeless as Greek mythological works of art" by the Jean-Paul Engelen, director of Public Art at the Qatari Museum Authority.

Omawumi

Singer, Omawumi has kept her intimate life very secret and till this very day, it’s still a mystery.
It seems the singer has resovled her issues with the father of her daughter.
Omawumi had a child in the US, in 2011; and ever since then, there’s been no word of who the father of the child is.
Some sources are quite sure that the father is Tosin Yusuf, but there hasn’t been any proof so far.
I can’t really say if Omawumi is now in talking terms with her baby daddy or she has fallen in love with someone else, but the truth will soon be known.
Omawumi shared a blurry photo of herself, her daughter Kamillah Emmanuella Yusuf and Baba Kamillah on Instagram days ago, the photo is so blurry you can hardly make out the image of the man suspected to the her baby’s daddy.
Omawumi also told sources that we should expect “good news” soon as regards to herself and baby daddy. She wrote: -

N146m BANK FRAUD: 5 Staff Arrested As Manager Absonds To UK With Family

A manager with a new generation bank, Kayode Adeyanju, has allegedly fled to the United Kingdom with his family following an allegation that he diverted  N146 million in connivance with five members of staff of the bank.

photoThe Special Fraud Unit, SFU, of the Nigeria Police at Milverton Street, Ikoyi, Lagos, southwest Nigeria, disclosed that they have arrested the other five members staff of the bank allegedly involved in the crime.
The SFU said the  suspects are Albert Nsude, 32, Danladi Garba, 38, Nasir Shehu, 40, Daniel Adeboye, 32, and Patrick Jimoh, 32.
They are currently in police custody where they are undergoing interrogation.
SFU’s PRO, DSP Ngozi Isitumen Agu, in a statement said the suspects were arrested following a written complaint by the management of the bank that it had uncovered massive fraud in their Sokoto State branch office and that they suspected the manager in charge, Adeyanju, to be the brain behind it.
Agu said during interrogation all the suspects allegedly confessed that they stole the money on the instruction of their manager, who is now at large.
The suspects further alleged that the branch manager personally withdrew N70 million from the bank’s vault to treat himself of an undisclosed ailment and fled to London with his family.

'N1tn Spent On Vehicle Importation In 2012' – NAC

The Director-General, National Automotive Council, Alhaji Aminu Jalal, said on Tuesday that the country spent about N1.2tn on the importation of various brands of vehicles last year.
photo

He said the vehicles ranged from fairly used cars, to brand new cars, excluding tractors and military vehicles.
Jalal, who led an eight-member Board of the NAC to the Peugeot Automobile of Nigeria in Kaduna, noted that the vehicles were imported by the three tiers of government, private corporate organisations as well as individuals.

According to the DG, the breakdown shows that N550bn worth of vehicles; N500bn spare parts and N150bn worth of tyres were brought into the country.
This, he added, had over the years stifled the economy as the country’s vehicle assembly plants lost patronage.
Jalal said, “I want to tell you that last year alone, this country spent N550bn on the importation of cars, buses and trucks. But that does not include tractors and military vehicles. Again, we also spent around N500bn on spare parts. In fact, on tyres alone, we spent N150bn. And this year, the same trend is showing.
“This is not good for our country. With the new policy, we are going to support our car plants to produce very standard cars at globally competitive prices. This is going to greatly add to our local content. For example, to assemble a car here, you need about 2,500 parts.
“If many cars are produced and sold here, then it would encourage the local manufacturing of these parts, creating more wealth here and driving down the cost of the vehicles. By the time we start implementing this policy, you will see a very impressive positive change in just six months.”
The Chairman, NAC, Alhaji Abdulkadir Saleh, gave an assurance that the new board would strictly implement the new automobile policy to ensure that locally assembled vehicles were patronised.
He said the government had no option than to fully implement the new policy and ensure that all tiers of government patronised locally assembled vehicles.
Saleh added that under the new policy, Toyota and Nissan would build plants in Nigeria.

Iran's Coach Questions Eaglets Real Age, Angers Garba

The head coach of the Iranian U-17 side, Ali Doustimehr has congratulated the Golden Eaglets over their qualification for the quarter final of the ongoing FIFA cadet World Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) but has raised dust on their ages.

“The Eaglets were the better side. I am happy with FIFA for bringing up such tournament which has helped to ensure peace and friendship among the youths of the world.
I have been in this job for over 30 years and I have been coaching the National team for 20 years. The way the Eaglets played today (yesterday) and in their matches showed that they can’t be teenagers but if they are truly within the age bracket, it shows that Nigeria will have a very strong national team in the future.
“I didn’t say that they are overage but if they truly Under 17 I wish them luck. My players are young and inexperienced and it counted against Nigeria,” Doustimehr admitted in a press conference after the match.
However, Eaglets’ Head Coach, Manu Garba has threatened to drag Doustimehr to FIFA if he doesn’t withdraw the statement credited to him.

Forbes Publishes World's Most Powerful List: Aliko Dangote Most Powerful Nigerian Alive

Who’s more powerful: the autocratic leader of a former superpower or the handcuffed commander in chief of the most dominant country in the world?

This year the votes for the World’s Most Powerful went to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He climbs one spot ahead of U.S. President Barack Obama, who held the title in 2012.

FORBES: The World's Most Powerful People 2013

Here is Forbes list of the most powerful people in the world. Surprisingly the lists sees Russian President Putin clinch the top spot and US President Obama below as number 2.
Putin has solidified his control over Russia while Obama’s lame duck period has seemingly set in earlier than usual for a two-term president — latest example: the government shutdown mess.
Anyone watching this year’s chess match over Syria and NSA leaks has a clear idea of the shifting individual power dynamics.
The Most Powerul People in the World list is an annual snapshot of the heads of state, financiers, philanthropists and entrepreneurs who truly rule the world.
It represents the collective wisdom of top FORBES editors, who consider hundreds of nominees before ranking the planet’s top 72 power-brokers – one for every 100 million people on Earth — based on their scope of influence and their financial resources relative to their peers.
This year’s list features 17 heads of state who run nations with a combined GDP of some $48 trillion — including the three most powerful people, Putin, Obama and Xi Jinping, the general secretary of the Communist Party of China.
The 27 CEOs and chairs control over $3 trillion in annual revenues, and 12 are entrepreneurs, including new billionaires on the list, Nigeria’s Aliko Dangote (No. 64), founder of Dangote Group, and Oracle’s Larry Ellison (No. 58).
Speaking of, this year’s class has 28 billionaires valued in excess of $564 billion. Here, a quick peek at the Most Powerful People in the World 2013:

Newcomers: Among the 13 newcomers are Pope Francis (No. 4), Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-Hee (No. 41), Volkswagen’s Martin Winterkorn (No. 49), South Korean President Park Geun-hye (No. 52), IBM CEO Virginia Rometty (No. 56), and Janet Yellen (No. 72), nominated by President Obama as the next leader of the U.S. Federal Reserve.
Rosneft CEO and Putin confidant Igor Sechin (No. 60) and Jill Abramson (No. 68), the executive editor of the New York Times, make a return appearance after dropping of the list in years past.
FORBES: The World's Most Powerful People 2013He’s Not No. 1: This is the first year that Putin carries the crown. Obama has been on the top of the list for every year with the exception of 2010, when Hu Jintao, the former political and military leader of China, was No. 1.
Women Moving Up In Numbers:
This year there are nine women on the list, representing 12% of the world’s most powerful — in stark contrast to being 50% of the world’s population. Both 2011 and 2012 featured six women leaders, and the inaugural list from 2009 included only 3 — or just 4.4%.
Recently elected Park of South Korea joins the other female heads of state German Chancellor Angela Merkel (No.5), Brazil’s Dilma Rousseff (No. 20) and de facto head of India Sonia Gandhi (No. 21).
Two of the world’s most important NGO’s are run by women: Christine Lagarde (No. 35) leads the IMF and Margaret Chan (No. 59) steers the World Health Organization.

Billionaires: Worth a cumulative $564 billion. Sure they’re rich but many of these billionaires deserve special attention for their philanthropic work, including Warren Buffett (No. 13), Michael Bloomberg (No. 29), Li Ka-shing (No. 30), Charles and David Koch (No. 31), and Mohammed Ibrahim (No. 71).

Entrepreneurs Represent: There are 12 in total. As expected, many are headquartered on the West Coast: Google’s Larry Page and Sergey Brin (No. 17), Mark Zuckerberg (No. 24), Elon Musk (No. 47), Ellison and Reid Hoffman (No. 65).
Global entrepreneurial spirit spans from Japan’s Masayoshi Son (No. 45) and China’s Robin Li (No. 61) to Africa’s Dangote and Ibrahim.
Year-over-year growth: The FORBES Most Powerful started in 2009, seeking to answer a straight yet complex question:

What is the true nature of power and can we really compare and rank heads of state with religious figures and drug traffickers?
The premise has always been to select one person for every 100 million on the planet.
The first list had 67 slots. This year we are up to 72.
At this fifth edition, it’s notable that most of the leaders who made the top 10 on the inaugural list are still on today: Obama, Putin, Bill Gates (No. 6), U.S. Fed Chair Ben Bernanke (No. 7), the King of Saudi Arabia (No. 8), Wal-Mart CEO Michael Duke (No. 10), richest man in the world Carlos Slim Helu (No. 12), Page and Brin, and Rupert Murdoch (No. 33).

All Major Lagos Markets Shut For New Iyaloja

All Major Lagos Markets Shut For New IyalojaThat is why all major markets in Lagos, southwest Nigeria, were this morning, shut for business to honour the newly installed Iyaloja General of Nigeria, Mrs. Folashade Tinubu Ojo.
The official installation which coincided with the 70th birthday anniversary of the Oba of Lagos, His Royal Majesty Rilwan Akiolu 1, took place at the Iga Idunganran palace of the monarch.
The markets were free from the usual transactions while the usual throng of customers was completely absent.
Markets at Ayobo-Ipaja, Iyana-Ipaja, Abule-Egba, Dopemu, Ogba, Egbeda, Agege, Balogun, Oke Arin, Oyingbo, Oshodi, Mushin and Ikotun were completely deserted.
Only newspaper vendors and a few hawkers that were in business as traders in these markets closed their stalls. Some customers who did not know about the closure of markets were disappointed.
A trader at Oke-Arin market, said: "I am not selling. We have all locked our shops to honour our new Iyaloja-General.
It is just a one-day thing. Probably by evening I guess people will start opening their shops."
A pepper seller at Iyana-Ipaja market, Kunbi Aderibigbe said: "We are acting on the instructions of our leaders not to open business today in honour of our new Iyaloja. It is just for today alone. Before evening I know the market will start bubbling again."
Buhari Akande, a trader at Balogun market, Lagos Island, said: "Not Balogun Market alone is closed to honour Madam Shade Tinubu, the daughter of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Today is her official installation so we traders deem it fit to shut our stalls to honour her," he said.

Police Action Against G7 Governors: An Attack On The Constitution-Progressive Governors Forum

In what is clearly an attack on Nigerians’ Constitutionally guaranteed rights of association and freedom of movement, the Federal Government yesterday, 28th October 2013, illegally used the coercive arm of the state – the Nigeria police to storm and forcefully dislodge seven Nigerian governors as well as other citizens from the Sokoto Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.

photo In what is clearly an attack on Nigerians’ Constitutionally guaranteed rights of association and freedom of movement, the Federal Government yesterday, 28th October 2013, illegally used the coercive arm of the state – the Nigeria police to storm and forcefully dislodge seven Nigerian governors as well as other citizens from the Sokoto Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.

From a government that purports to obey the rule of law, the disruption of a peaceful meeting by the police is not only crude, condemnable and unwarranted, but is a reflection of government’s growing intolerance and an affront on the democratic rights of Nigerians.
Particularly disturbing and worthy of note is that if seven Nigerian governors, all of whom are constitutionally guaranteed immunity from prosecution can be manhandled in such a brutal manner, what would be the fate of ordinary citizens who seek to exercise their rights to freedom association?
It is evident that the federal government is unlawfully using the police for its illegal and nefarious activities for the purpose of intimidation aimed at imposing the Bamanga Tukur-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on other party members and Nigerians.
The Progressive Governors Forum finds it unacceptable that Nigeria Police has been reduced to partisan agents and attack dogs that only serve a part of a political party when the levels of insecurity in the country are so high. It is reckless to take partisan contest to levels of warfare as the federal government has done because this would only weaken the capacity of security operatives in responding to real security challenges.
At a time when every security outfit and resource should be devoted to securing the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians, that the Federal Government thinks it expedient to send the number of officers and the kind of equipment it did to harass its perceived political opponents takes governance to a new level of irresponsibility and rascality. Clearly, President Jonathan and his advisers have acted in complete violations of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended pursuant to some self-serving political interests.
The Progressive Governors Forum notes with concern, the role of other public officials in the persecution of perceived opposition figures like Senator Aisha Al-Hassan, whose events centre, A-Park Gardens in Abuja, which has been in operation for several years, being suddenly revoked by the FCTA and slated for demolition.
This is coming after the security details attached to Senators Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Danjuma Goje, former Governors of Kwara and Gombe states respectively, have been withdrawn, as were the security details attached Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State who now operates without an ADC and a CSO.
The PGF hereby expresses solidarity with the G7 Governors who have every right to fear for their lives, as well as other Nigerians that have fallen victims of government misuse of the police to intimidate, harass and oppress them.
We urge all patriotic Nigerians to rise to the defense of their legitimate constitutional rights and invite the leadership of the National Assembly to direct the Federal Government to stop using security operatives to harass political opponents.
We also call on the National Assembly to direct the police to stop the ongoing regrettable and unconstitutional harassment of members of New PDP forthwith and to urgently intervene and halt the authoritarian actions of the Federal Government which amount to direct attacks on the little that are left of our democracy.

Nursing Mother Drugged By Husband For 3-Day Marathon Sex In Lagos

A nursing mother, Mrs Glory Ojuala, has narrated how her husband, Alex Ojuala, drugged her for three days in order to have sex with her a few days after she was delivered of a baby at her matrimonial home in Lagos State, western Nigeria.

The mother of three children made the shocking revelation at Ejigbo Customary Court in Lagos State on Monday while testifying before the court following a petition she filed before the court for dissolution of their 15-year marriage.

The 30-year old housewife claimed that two days after she gave birth to their child, her husband started pestering her for sex in the presence of her mother, who was on a visit.

Glory told the court that she denied her husband sex because she was still recovering from pangs childbirth and was breast feeding, but he accused her of having extramarital affairs and cut the family’s daily feeding allowance to N100 to punish her.

Glory alleged that she did not know that her husband had an ulterior motive when she gave her a soft drink while she was eating on the day her husband drugged her.

The nursing mother alleged  that after she took the soft drink, she couldn’t explain what happened afterwards until she was revived in a hosptial three days later.

She said that she later knew that her husband drugged her to have sex with her when he confessed that he did so because she was denying him sex and was sleeping with other men.

She told the court that after the incident she moved out of his house and since then they have been living separately, while her husband abandoned their children for her to take care of them alone.

The embittered woman had petitioned the court seeking for the dissolution of their 15-year marriage on the grounds that her husband was threatening her life, did not take care of her and their children and beat her, adding that she does not love him anymore.

Glory narrated in court how Alex Ojuala, an indigene of Edo State, came to her village in Eket in Akwa Ibom State and married her at a tender age.

She said despite her age, she accepted to marry him against her family wish, only to be maltreated by him after they started living together.

She told the court that she believed that he charmed her to marry him and her suspicion was confirmed when she started attending church.

Glory asked the court to compel  Alex to take care of their children by providing for their upkeep and education.

In response, Alex denied all the allegations made against him and said he had been taking care of his family until trouble started.

Alex said he used to give his wife N200 daily before leaving for work and wondered how she would claim that he did not take care of her and their children.

He also said that he was no longer interested in the relationship and asked the court  to dissolve the marriage.

He promised to provide N10,000 for the upkeep and education of the children.

The president of the court,  Mr T. A.  Eko, queried Alex for abandoning the responsibility of the training their children for his estranged wife to shoulder and asked him to have a change of heart for the interest of the children.

The matter was adjourned till March 2014

SHOCKING: First Lady of Enugu State Begs To Release Her From House Arrest Imposed By Governor Sullivan Chime

Clara Chime, the First Lady of Enugu State, says Governor Sullivan Chime, has put her under house arrest, and has cried out for help of human rights bodies to rescue her.

In a letter dripping with pain and suffering, Mrs. Chime disclosed that she married Mr. Chime in October 2008 but that she has been unable to share the matrimonial bed with him for over four years.
Photo: Clara Chime begs to rescue her from house arrest imposed by Governor Sullivan Chime
All the attempts to intervene with the situation failed, as she says: the ones were made by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu state (Callistus Onaga), top priests have come to intervene, even the President and the First Lady of the nation.
“My father is late, my Mum and few of my siblings are confused and have done all kinds of prayers they know of, 3 of my siblings prefers me dead than to see me leave the Government house. He treats my Mum and my siblings bad,” she wrote.
Mrs. Chime was even introduced to 2 psychiatrists who have prescribed “all kinds of drugs that ends up keeping me acute depressed and also drives me into hallucinations.”

Mrs. Chime, desperate over the situation, complains that Governor Chime has ordered her to leave with her 4-year old son whom she conceived before their wedding.
However, later the governor threatened to disown the boy, if she leaves him. Whenever she tries to do so, she is locked in. Even when Mrs. Chime promised to leave alone, without her son, he still instructed his securities to lock her inside the house.
Of the situation in Government House, she said, “He does not take care of me personally, the government gives me allowance to run the house and that's where I save little from to take care of my elf, my Mum and few of my siblings,” she said in the letter.
"He shut me out of his life years ago; I don't have access to his apartment. The problem is enormous; I don't know where to start to explain from.”
Now Mrs. Chime is begging for help of human rights authorities to come and rescue her.

Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Consultant

The family of former Chief of General Staff, Vice Admiral Mike Akhigbe has debunked wide spread media reports that he is dead just as there is anxiety in Edo State on the state of health of the retired naval officer.
It was earlier reported today that the former military vice-president had died weekend in a London hospital of cancer-related illness.
But the former Chief of Navy Staff’s immediate elder brother, Chief Joseph Alemon Akhigbe, who expressed shock over the reports, described the news as unfounded.
He also clarified that his younger brother was stabilizing in an American hospital and not London hospital as erroneously reported.
Mike-Akhigbe
“As I speak to you now, the newspaper report in my opinion is pure speculation. The report said he died in a London hospital, but my brother is in an American hospital stabilizing.
“The wife, son-in-law and his daughter are with him. My immediate younger brother in Abuja who spoke to the wife in America confirmed to family members that Admiral is stabilizing; the news of his death is totally untrue,” he further said.

Nigerians in the United Kingdom have expressed concern over the non-representation of the Diaspora in the 13-member National Dialogue Committee set up by President Goodluck Jonathan.
They expressed their views on Sunday in London at the International Dialogue Forum, where leaders of the various ethnic associations living in the UK voiced their thoughts about the proposed national dialogue.
Jonathan had set up the committee to come up with modalities of convening a national dialogue in order to resolve what he called “issues that currently caused friction in the polity”.
However, the Nigerian community in the UK wanted a review of the committee membership to include representation from the Diaspora.
They also stressed the need for the national dialogue to be sovereign, noting that its submission should not be sent to the National Assembly, but adopted through a referendum.
Chief Ejike Uzoalor, the Chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo UK chapter, said the national dialogue was long overdue.
He said “given our diversity and interest, it is necessary to have a common position on issues that affect us”.
In his remarks, Dr Ojibulem Lawrence, the Chairman of the Niger Delta Forum, said: “we want this dialogue to be a sovereign conference where its outcome will be decided by the people and not the National Assembly”.
On his part, Mr Alistair Soyode, the organiser of the Forum, said the international dialogue was to enable Nigerians in Diaspora to voice out their opinions on the national conference and identify areas of concern that would be their contribution to the dialogue.
The Europe correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that issues bordering on  resource control, security, zoning formula, education, diaspora, voting and youth empowerment were on the agenda of the forum. (NAN)

I Sold My CD’s at Salons to Survive – Banky W Reveals

Banky W is a renowned name in R&B industry now, but he wasn’t always among the best. There was a time the songwriter-singer was broke, struggling and unsure of success.

Read the most interesting facts of Banky W has revealed in the latest interview:

banky-w-460x440
“Everybody knows me to be the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of EME, but what people do not know is that EME started when I was in my third year in university in New York.
You see, we all dream dreams, but it is important to think very big and start where you are because God never gives you everything but gives you enough to start.
At that time, I knew I wanted to do music, but of course I understood nobody starts by selling a million CDs or the big screen!
I worked in fast foods outlets, clothing stores and as a knife salesman, selling knives from door to door. That way, I gathered money to pay for studio recording time. I was recording with a close friend at that time.
After making that music, we printed a thousand CDs though we didn’t have any fan. I had one battered car that broke down virtually everywhere, so, we would print black and white posters, stick them on the sides of the car, sell from the car’s trunk and drive to salons to do marketing.
We would walk to the owners of the salons, greet politely, and ask them to let us entertain their customers. Sometimes, some would kick us out and sometimes some would say yes. If told yes, after singing for a minute or two, we would sell our CDs to the customers! That was the beginning!
A lot of people see you on stage and see the success but do not know what you had to go through! I never had one really big break; it was always two steps forward and a couple backwards.
But I just decided that I was going to make music work for me. That was why I moved on to a new salon each time any salon rejected me!
I just kept going because I believe failure is when you give up. Albert Einstein said he tried a hundred times to make the light bulb. When he was asked what kept him going during the 99 times, he said: ‘I didn’t consider those 99 times as failure; rather, I considered them 99 ways that it didn’t work!’
We went about selling CDs and, on the days we couldn’t sell much, we would sit down and be broke together. I remember my friend was a member of a church that usually served food after service. So, on the days we didn’t sell CDs and were too broke to buy food, we would attend service in that church so we could pack rice and store in the fridge.
At a point, being a student of industrial engineering, I was working for an engineering company and was recording as well. I would go to work from 7am till about 2pm and then go to school till about 8pm, and then drive two and a half hours to New York City where the studio that would let us record for less was, and record until about 2am.
I would then drive two and a half hours back home to be back at work at 7am the following day.
One day, I was driving home from work and was so tired that I fell asleep while on a bridge. I would have driven off from the top of the bridge to God knows where, if not for an on-going construction work. God really saved me!
After a while, Banky’s hard work began to pay off and, even while in school, he began winning awards, beginning with the ‘Albany Idol’ competition. Other international awards soon followed.
In 2008 when he decided to move to Nigeria after the completion of one of his albums, Mr Capable, Banky was consistently told his genre of music ‘would never appeal to Nigerians and therefore wouldn’t ‘sell’.
As he got turned down, pressure mounted on him and his manager to change their genre of music but Banky strongly held on to another long-standing principle which had taught him to stand out by being unique rather than trying to imitate anyone’s skill.
He therefore insisted on sticking to R&B, and this paid-off as he soon became a household name in the Nigerian entertainment industry!
Banky W advice to Readers and Fans:
“You cannot say enough about the grace of God and I therefore do not want to claim any form of glory. Falling down is inevitable but getting back up is optional!
Frankly, you can’t appreciate sunshine if you’ve never been through a heavy rain. Yes, life is tough, but what do you do in those tough moments?
Do you learn the lesson, stand up again, consider yourself stronger and keep going? Or do you sit down and feel sorry for yourself?
The graveyard, they say, is the richest place in the world because therein lies so many who died with their dreams. So, my advice is, do not give up! If Banky can be where he is today, you can be where you want to be if you put to mind to it.”

house on fireNo fewer than 24 people lost their lives and property valued N105 million destroyed in fire incidents in Gombe between January and September, 2013.

The Director of the State Fire Service, Mr Ishaku Maidoki, made the disclosure to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Monday.
Maidoki said the department saved 700 lives and property worth N5.2 million from the fire disasters, adding the service received 144 emergency calls during the period.
He stressed the need to sustain the cooperation between the service and the public, while reiterating the determination of the service to save lives and property in the state.
He also charged the citizens to ensure that all electrical appliances in their homes and business areas were always switched off when not in use.
The director said women who use firewood for cooking should ensure that the fire was properly put out after cooking to avert outbreaks of inferno.
He commended the state government for the provision of water in the directorate and other public places.
Maidoki said the state government had assisted the fire service in responding promptly to emergency and distress call.
“Availability of water will always help to reduce the challenges we face during operations, especially in getting water from far places like Wuro, Julli and Kwadon,” he said. (NAN)
