Abuja Carnival opens in colour

One of Nigeria’s popular street carnivals has opened in the capital city, Abuja amid colour and excitement
This year's edition of the Abuja Carnival took off with countries like Egypt, Zimbabwe, China in attendance.
The carnival has grown to become one of the major events celebrating the cultural richness of Africa’s most populous country where over 400 tribes,cultures and dialects coexist.


The main focus of the street fest which states and regions in the country embrace is to showcase the unity of cultures despite the country's diversity.
Many residents of the nation’s capital are thrilled about the composition of the carnival and the attractive costumes of the cultural troupes.
Tourists and other foreign troupes are not left out as Zimbabweans, Egyptians, Chinese and other countries are billed to perform during the carnival.
The theme of the 2013 edition is "A people for a Century, A People Forever" which is centered on the 100 years celebration of the Nigerian nation.
Many Abuja residents had a swell time enjoying the music blasting from the speakers of participating troupes and their attractive costumes.
Other events like a Nigeria Art Show, Durbar, cultural exhibition among others are lined up to celebrate the event.
