Aluu4: Court Grants Paramount Ruler, 3 Others Bail

The Four Youth Murdered

A Rivers State High Court, sitting in Port Harcourt has granted bail to four accused persons, including the Paramount ruler of Omokiri-Aluu, Alhaji Hassan Walewa, who are standing trial over their alleged involvement in the murder and negligence to prevent murder in the community, of four University of Port Harcourt students.

Justice Latam Nyordee granted the four persons bail in the sum of N2 million, with two sureties in like sum.
The court also ordered that the sureties must be verified by the Registrar of the court and must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court and also have evidence of landed property and updated tax record in the past five years.

The 1st to the 8th accused persons, were however denied bail, as the court held that it did not find sufficient basis to grant their applications, as the charge of murder, carrying capital punishment, ordinarily was not bailable barring the discretion of the court.

Chiadika Lordson, Ugonna Kelechi Obusor, Mike Lloyd Toku, and Tekena Elkanah, students of University of Port Harcourt, were October last year, murdered in cold blood over alleged theft of a laptop computer and a blackberry phone.
